Honestly not surprised at Claw rejecting this. Even if he hadn’t retired, taking actual leadership of the world/solar system/universe doesn’t seem like Claws style or endgame. Too much management and babysitting ruling everything.

He runs a pretty big criminal empire already actually. He can do management. He’s done management.

I think there is probably a huge difference between running what’s essentially a business and being the head of a government… Just sayin’.

Aye, Ace of Spade speaks true, WuseMajor: the government is not the private sector. Even if it was the same thing, I’ll also point out that Claw doesn’t always do the best job of running his own organization. It is a very entertaining job for we the readers, but remember this comic strips history. We were introduced to Claw and company when the new death traps he had installed in his base killed off so many henchmen, they not only had to aggressively recruit more but dramatically lower their standards. XD

He only has — err, had — one(!!) lawyer on staff.

Well, one lawyer is probably plenty when you don’t care whether any given action is legal and the lawyer you’ve got can mind-control any court you wind up in.

But Claaaaw. Everyone needs someone to blame. ~.^

Claw has a point. There are some REALLY nasty strings attached to that job. And not a lot of perks for, yanno, a guy on the verge of early and very rich retirement.
By OneYen Sun Mar 4th 2018 at 5:24 pm
Agreed. Add into the fact that Claw has really put a lot of points into family protection/caring father. Becoming such a leader puts a target on his whole family. Not something he wants to knowingly do at such a large scale.

Yeah, I think Claw is wisely recognizing both his limits as a leader and the very real downsides of their proposal. At the same time, he might be useful in helping solidify this alliance, which would also help Earth. If the reformed Empire falls apart in civil war, Earth could get drawn into it willy-nilly.

I just realized… does this alien alliance run on powdered worms? :O

There could be a trump card waiting to be played: What does Mrs. Claw think of being Empress?

Eww! You said the ‘T’ word! 😉

Not sure if claw rejecting is a good play or not. On one hand taking leadership and then moving OFF world would keep earth safe, but Claw Sr. Isn’t the kind of guy who leaves retirement to be a martyr. On the other hand aliens are weird and this could easily turn in to “How dare you refuse to lead us, Now we must destroy you.” and instead of one emperor and his fleet you have every king/president/czar/hive queen/federation/corporation/head of other organized society coming personally with their own fleet to wipe out the humiliation of someone refusing the be their emperor. Of course Claw Sr. said it himself, taking the job and staying on Earth would be putting his home world in the middle of a crap fiesta.

Good. He knows nothing about space politics and would have been a figurehead anyways.
