Slight flaw in Anna’s plan…

Oh, I know all about how the value of diamonds is completely artificial. Anna knows what she’s doing with this plan.

Good to hear! 🙂

Yeah, isn’t the whole point that it’s gonna devalue the artificial value since there’s so much of it? At least that’s what I’m gathering, I dunno

Like her father did with gold.

for me it sounded like she is going to just underbid every diamond sale ever and make the business unprofitable for everyone else. that being said, if you had that tech, you could just turn any source of carbon into diamonds. Like charcoal or wood chips. No need to dig them up.
By Gianluca Burdon Fri Jun 15th 2018 at 8:52 am
Yeah, but then she couldn’t hire as many West Vrginians

It’s probably because there is still a stigma against ‘artificial’ diamonds that are made by tech, silly though the concept is. Right now a manufactured diamond has to provide full disclosure that it was made.
Here though she is making diamonds underground so they have to be dug up, giving it the illusion of being naturally occurring. She isn’t declaring to the world she made them, rather she will ‘discover’ this diamond lode and market it off with few the wiser.

It isn’t just the artificial price, it is the fact that DeBeers hold nearly 100% of all the Diamond mines in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yplI48hSt2E
DeBeers are the ones who embedded the 2 months for a diamond ring and so on. They control the sales and jack up prices yet there are so many out there.

Actually not a flaw, since as long as she has diamonds she can end the trade of blood diamonds by flooding the market and sell her diamonds cheaper or even at the same price as the industrial ones. She won’t be as rich, but that isn’t her objective to begin with.

There’s some missing information in That episode. For example diamond rings were actually used as insurance due to the fact woman couldn’t sue for damages goods anymore. Also that rings being used for weddings dates back to Ancient Greece.
Also technically the intrinsic value of cash money is also 0. So there’s that.
By ShirouZhiwu Sun Jun 17th 2018 at 2:11 am
Well, even DeBeers has a financial limit. If she can survive their hitmen, all is good.

I like the blueprint in panel three. 🙂

Sorry, Zap. RandomMadman guessed that she was taking down blood diamonds. If it’s any consolation, I had no idea, personally.

The point of the method used isn’t to be cheap, it’s probably to have the diamonds formed be indistinguishable from natural diamonds. It is already very hard to tell the difference and by imitating natural forming process so closely it will be even worse. She will face great opposition from the established companies, though. She may have to start her own jewelry chain or buy out existing ones and she’ll still have to deal with the full force of everybody’s PR machine.
