Potassium iodide. It’s the “iodide” that’s important — your thyroid will load up on it and when the thyroid is all full of stable iodine, it won’t absorb the radioactive iodines associated with fission events, and those rad-iodines will just, um, flush on out of your system. Please note that potassium iodide ONLY protects the thyroid gland and ONLY from radioactive iodine — your thyroid and the rest of your body are still at risk from all the other crap. Please leave the area.
If you have no potassium iodide tablets, paint the backs of your knees, the insides of your wrists, and behind your ears with tincture of iodine, found in your medicine cabinet — the kind you put on little cuts and it stings like a sumbeech. Or, if you are a home brewer, use the iodophor you have for sterilizing your equipment. Then leave.

Most readers can stay where they are for the next 80 days and get as much fresh air as they do usually.-) Iodine has 8 days of decay time, so 0.1 % will be left by then.
SCNR, just take your iodine and leave. Or failing that, leave. But don’t leave in a way that gets people hurt.

I doubt you’ll find much of that tincture of red stuff in a 21st-century american medicine cabinet, it’s not so common as it once was.
