Isn’t a significant part of that just that people never expected anything better from you, and thus any “bridges” you could “burn” were actually “shut doors” before you got a chance to “burn” them?

Yeah, but then he sent them flowers. I think they would be neutral to each other if the supergroup hadn’t collapsed after he left.
