I think Claw’s in denial. He’s easily smart enough to see through such a disguise and it’s not like his sister is trying to keep it a secret from him… Or it could be as Boomstick say: “People only see what they wanna see”
That said, I have a few ideas as to how he got that rock. And only one of them involves superpowers

In fairness, in a world populated by billions of people enough people are going to have a slight to strong physical resemblance to one another that only the most obsessive stalkers (& I’m looking at YOU, Miss 1950s Lois Lane!) would do anything more then shrug and deem it coincidence even if they did happen to notice it. And as Father Brown’s best supervillain Flambeau once explained, there is an important difference between the talents that make a good detective and the talents that make a good criminal. No particular reason Claw shouldn’t be as oblivious as the average man in the street once you keep that in mind. ^_~

It warms my heart so much to see a Father Brown reference. Great book series. And you are spot on about people having a strong resemblance to each other and people’s willingness to consider coincidence as the more likely option.

Heh. I know Father Brown from the BBC series.

Personally, my opinion is that Claw’s never actually LOOKED at his sister’s boyfriend. He’s done enough research to realise that he isn’t attempting to abuse her, so he’s left him alone on the condition that he doesn’t make her unreasonably upset. And, whenever they met, Claw was more interested in hanging out with his sister than anything about her boyfriend.

I was thinking it was refreshing that the reporter DID notice for a change.

Haha!!! Here i was thinking Anna would end up with him, but he’s already taken!

My guess is Claw suspects, but likes playing dumb for the hilarity.
Also because when it comes down to it, well, if he’s working a 9/5 job, hey, less time for Claw to be worrying about his plans having a sudden interrupt.

One hand, if Claw actually knew, I doubt Ultimo would be alive, unless he found out after the events of the invasion. On the other hand… the fact he doesn’t know is hilarious with a capital F!
By random reader Tue Dec 25th 2018 at 9:07 pm
I disagree. Claw may be a villain but he’s not a psychopath. Ultimo has never endangered Claw’s family (save for the planetary invasion bit.) nor gone after any of the family members.
Claw seems much more willing to cause Ultimo great pain and embarrassment than outright assassination. Character assassination not withstanding.

I wonder if it just means claw never agreed to put anything aside. That he may intend to introduce the captain to any number of chemical, drugs, alien artifacts, and magic to see if there are any weaknesses.
Or maybe her reporter boyfriend wrote a really scathing article about how CC destabilized the gold market, claimed an alien citadel of absolute power, got completely pardoned due to hijacking said fortress, and now uses his new found freedom to become a totally legitimate pusher of extremely cheap drugs?

I like how everybody has noticed who Mark is but not that Lauren’s ring is on the wrong finger
By Sean Duggan Thu Dec 27th 2018 at 2:55 pm
Huh. I hadn’t realized other people didn’t follow the tradition, but I was always taught that the engagement ring goes on the ring finger of the right hand during the engagement, and gets transitioned over during the wedding ceremony to the left hand.
By blackpickles Sun Dec 30th 2018 at 12:00 am
Most people put the engagement ring on the left hand now so that other people will automatically know that they are taken. A ring on the ring finger on the right hand doesn’t have to mean anything most of the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA

Lol, I meant hand, not finger

So, the Superman/Clark Kent thing is actually pretty easy to believe for most people. Clark Kent’s picture probably isn’t in the paper very often and Superman moves fast enough to be blurry. For those who’ve actually had some face time with Superman and Clark Kent, Superman wears tight tights (giving him maximum definition as the buff triangle he is) with a big attention grabbing symbol in the middle of his chest (so most people aren’t looking at his face) and he projects calm confidence, while Clark Kent wears a loose suit (which turns him into a generic rectangle), glasses (which do change the look of your face), and tends to project being a bit clumsy and dopey.
Also, generally speaking, very few people are going know both Superman and Clark to a significant degree. Lois is probably the main person who does, who isn’t necessarily already in on the secret. Most people spend five minutes getting rescued by Superman then head back to their job at the Daily Planet where Clark has plenty of time to pull a boner and allay any suspicions you might have had about him being Superman.
Now, granted, only some of this applies to this particular case, but Claw knows Captain Ultimo pretty well and seems to think of him as an overly sanctimonious jerk and not the kind of guy his sister would like, let alone marry which is really the thing that makes the whole disguise work. Plus, it doesn’t seem like he knows Mark that well.
So, I can buy it.

Two other reasons.
1. Hypno glasses
When he became a TV reporter back in the 70s people saw him everyday. He still wasn’t spotted because his glasses (made of glass from Krypton) hypnotized the audience into believing he was Clark Kent.
2. Why would you think he has a secret identity?
Sure Batman must have one, but Superman? Even Lex th.inks he is Superman 24/7

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
OMG OMG OMG OMG ITS FREAKING ULTIMO!!!!
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!
This is just the best ever!!!

It’s a comic world. Faceblindness is pretty much a normal trait. I think being able to notice these kinds of things would count as a superpower by itself.
By thedarkman Sat Jan 5th 2019 at 9:32 pm
My personal theory on the whole Superman/Clark and now Ultimo/Mark thing is that all the villains know. How could they not? It’s just that A) He’s no less bulletproof in his pajamas than in his suit and B) If he’s juggling a civilian identity he has less time to mess with their schemes.

Don’t feel bad Claw, it took me her pointing out a potential issue for me to realise too. I even mentally acknowledged that he seamed pretty strong before realizing
By Sam Bronson Thu Feb 7th 2019 at 6:25 am
Me, I was like “that looks like Clark Kent”, kept reading, and only after I saw what she said was I like “wait, really?”. I guess I don’t look at his face that much either?
By Thisguy Sat Jan 26th 2019 at 6:51 pm
That worst Clark Kent disguise I’ve ever seen.
Which means it’s perfect.
Thanks DC.
