Fun Fact: While the corset was originally designed to help both Man and Women look skinnier, by the eighteenth century were designed much more to support a woman’s bust than reduce the waist — essentially they were the ancestor to the bra — and by necessity had to be easy to move in while still helping the wearer with her posture.

One of the reasons women got a reputation for frailty in the past was because the restrictive nature of overtightened corsets led to ladies passing out when they got overly excited or anxious by something.
