It was a rough weekend, and I only had time enough for a one-panel joke. This will help us segue to the next part of this story.
The last few weeks have also had a lot of featured comics from my fellow Spiderforest creators. A few put in quite a bit of extra work to help organize and streamline the big cross-promotion, and should be recognized for that.
Special Shout Out this week to:
Andy P creator of
An impulsive teenager turned mummy investigates her own murder with the assistance of a cantankerous ghost. Our story occurs in a future based on predictions from the late 1800s—a future where everyone can fly and there’s no such thing as wi-fi.
And Deanna Brigman of
Retired warrior Dionisia’s quiet life as a grandmother is interrupted when an old friend is in need of saving. With her past catching up to her she is about to discover just how magic left her world, and have to decide if it is worth bringing back.
Obscurato takes place in a Medieval inspired fantasy world where magic is the stuff of fairy tales. Our heroine Dionisia has a secret and to protect it she enlists the help of her husband Larkin, his upstart squire Joseph, and the ever loyal Ram. They may be in over their heads as the malevolent forces behind the mystery could be more than they can handle.
For selflessly promoting the other creators participating in the Comic of the Week promotion! Please stop by and give them thanks by checking out their awesome comics!

She truly is evil if she serves low fat ranch…

I dunno – I go with Hidden Valley and I buy the Light version because I can’t tell the difference between the two.
GENUINE OPINION OR FAKE NEWS TO FUEL THE MACHINE OF THE EVIL INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX‽

In my experience, it really depends on what is being given the “lite” or “diet” treatment. Companies are notorious for advertising things that were always true as special features if a particular dieting fad makes them relevant. They also are good at creating variations that aren’t truly any better for you, because (for example) they lower the fat but raise the sugar and/or salt content. I don’t think the low-fat ranch agrees with me too well, and I cannot do diet soda pop anymore, but Miracle Whip Lite is awesome and how such a condiment should be. 😉

fad is a taste carrier. If you remove some of it, you’re gonna need more sugar and salt to keep the taste.

The “Low fat” fad (if we can call it a fad after changing the way we eat for decades) was a result of bad research that blamed fat (which we have been eating at relatively consistent levels since our ancestors had to throw spears at mammoths to earn dinner) for a rising amount of heart disease and obesity… REALLY catching the American people’s attention in 1955 when President Eisenhower suffered a heart attack. Fat consumption took all the blame, but in reality, it’s sugar consumption that has been increasing steadily in the population year after year. We eat about the same amount of fat we always had, but sugar is in more American foods than most people are even aware of. That’s what we now know was the real cause of the rise in obesity, heart disease, and a bit alter, diabetes becoming frightfully common in America.
Here’s where it gets really messed up. In order to make the low-fat foods the public was demanding, food companies came up with new recipes that used far less natural fats… which unsurprisingly made the food taste terrible, so to fix the taste, they added more SUGAR.
Low-Fat foods aren’t healthier, and wont help you lose weight or prevent other diseases; they’re actually much worse for you than the “regular” versions.

I feel happy that there are people who still remember Ranma 1/2.

Which at the same time reminds us how old we are.
I still have ep 1, vhs, complete VIZ case, and all the extras it came with somewhere in this house.

I vaguely recognize that.

Huh, first day on the job and the new Crimson Claw already knows how to greet the capes.

You know what I hate about these one-panel posts?
The fact that they come out looking so freakishly huge that I can’t even see the whole panel without scrolling.
(Then again, I haven’t had to wait for any of these updates yet; my opinion might be different once I catch up…)
