And we pretty much know what happens after that.

We need a refresher! Yeah, just run it all over again, with subtitles and explanations. We’ll wait.

Considering the technology this world has, I’m sure lungs can be replaced. Breath the ominous gas all you like!

Is it just me or does young Kaley look weirdly old?

I’m fairly sure the very first appearance of Anna is here
http://supervillainous.spiderforest.com/comic/get-smarter/
That visit is referenced here,
http://supervillainous.spiderforest.com/comic/me-myself-and-i/
Context says that that trip through time happened before all of this and that Anna had gone back to the future to see if the test worked.

Huh… Interesting. Makes me think…
Say this gas is somewhere in the range of cigarette smoke to chlorine gas in terms of harm, and has life-long cumulative effects that cannot be healed.
Each breath the two take, Young-Kaley permanently loses 1% of her lung capacity, and Elder-Kaley loses 1% of her lung capacity AND the “causual” damage she suffered back when she was Young-Kaley (in the present moment.)
So, despite remaining in the toxic gas for the same amount of time, Elder-Kayley’s rapidly diminishing lung capacity causes her to drop to the floor, suffocating to death about the same time Young-Kayley has lost about half her lung capacity, and is watching in horror (and hyperventilating both out of panic… and because she can’t really take a full breath, though she might not have noticed the latter yet).
I was thinking when I started this thought exercise that it might be an exponential increase that rapidly spiraled out of control, but it’s merely additive. Ah well, still interesting.

Ah, but the thing to remember is the time interval between Young-Kaley and Old-Kaley. Old Kaley has a decade or so to seek out a super-cure for her lungs and both the motive and the resources with which to o it. So she actually starts at the same point that Young-Kaley does. ^_^

Well, that’s at LEAST as purely hypothetical as my scenario. 😛
