The belt does stuff!
New week, new comic! This time it’s Daniel, a Depression-era vampire tale. Creepy as heck, and containing scenes of intense violence, it’s not one for the kids.
Seriously, it’s not for the kids.

Guess even without using his hands, ol’ Claw can belt someone good.

Nom nom nom power is delicious

Does Crimson Claw absorb some of his power here? He certainly seems more powerful in the present than he did during this flashback…

Never underestimate the power of 20 active game years worth of experience points. ^_^

…so did I not figure this out sooner because I just didn’t want to? I was about to post my theory but I’m flummoxed trying to find proper terminology quickly but failing. I’ll still give it a try with awkward wording so if you don’t want to risk me being correct and “spoiling” it for you, I think this entire paragraph should be enough of a “Spoiler Warning”. XD
Okay, still with me?
Look at Claw’s belt and look at Defender X. Unless you think Claw is just sooooo sexy that Defender X’s mojo can’t resist him, instead it looks like some sort of feedback between the armored pelvic region of Defender X’s armor and Claw’s belt. Way back when we learned that Claw’s belt is actually part of a set of armor and the last piece housed some sort of malevolent entity that ended up possessing one of the lab techs.
So as you have certainly deduced by now even if you were as clueless as I was until this strip, that bit of Defender X is his power source (yup, like a lot of guys XD) and may even be what provoked him to go on such a rampage (he may be possessed or under some other sort of corrupting influence).

Well, if Claw’s suit is a prison for out of control chaotic baddies… then Defender X would be a prison of Overzealous lawful, morally ambiguous, yet are somehow deemed “good” beings. So more than malevolent possession, I’m gonna bet that Defender X there is suffering from an overdose of “Overpowered Lawful Stupid entities”. Along the lines of the “all undead and supernatural beings are bad guys” Paladin save it’s more like “The only good criminal is a dead criminal” sort of thing.

You know, I’ve never cared for the D&D alignment system so I am hoping it doesn’t break down like that.

“I’m… winning? Ah, well… Just gonna go with it!”
Words to live by.

Agreed.

When you’re winning it’s usually best to just go with it. Just caught up and this might be my new favorite webcomic. That includes homestuck AND 8-bit theater so give yourself a really big pat on the back this mofo rocks.

Protip: if you ever find yourself uttering the words “watch me incinerate you alive!” you *might* not be on the good side of the alignment spectrum anymore.
