I believe that it’s more like he hesitated because he couldn’t believe Claw on that one.

When faced with the impossible, the incredible becomes more likely by comparison. This is one of those moments. From Fang’s perspective a murderous blue monster baby is kinda out there. So the explanation, while strange, was within the range of acceptable probability. “Grew it under laboratory conditions, huh? Well, I guess I must accept that”!

We haven’t actually seen Fang in over a year. His last appearance was during the court storyline, and he went down trying to stop Joey during the big blue monster’s first appearance: http://supervillainous.spiderforest.com/?comic=someone-elses-problem
